We’re excited to be investing not just in our company’s future, but also in the future of science. In the UK, we've invested in a new £105m Centre for Scientific Excellence in Hull, the single largest single investment in the company’s history.
Set to open in 2019, it will be one of RB’s biggest healthcare development centres, complementing other major R&D facilities around the world.
As our largest site for Health R&D, the £105m Science and Innovation Centre in Hull will play a vital role in delivering on our vision for healthier lives. Our focus drives the development of innovative solutions that empower people to take control of their own healthcare, across the entire lifespan from birth through to old age.
For us, a great collaborative environment, the right support systems and a workplace that our people can thrive in, is key to success. Our new centre in Hull will fuse together world class science and technology, so we stay ahead of the game and remain leaders in our field.
The highly sustainable building will house a Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) health development facility to support the creation and testing of cutting-edge consumer health innovations.
Versatile, onsite facilities where consumers can work with us to co-create, optimise and review new product innovations during their development.
A suite of new laboratories to enable our healthcare scientists to carry out formulation optimisation at the bench. A large Pilot Plant facility will complement this allowing scale up studies, 1/10 scale manufacturing for regulatory submissions and preparation of clinical trial material.
New facilities for our analytical and microbiology teams housing the latest equipment, which will allow them to better provide supportive data during both the product development and stability phases.
Brand new stability testing suites, which will be one of the biggest in Europe, enabling us to better evaluate the performance of our development products up to 3 years after manufacture.
Our investment goes beyond our building and our people. We want to bring the entire Hull community on the journey, creating a World of Inspiring Science. Through local educational initiatives we’re encouraging young people to realise just how exciting a Science, Technology, Engineering or Maths (STEM) led career can really be.
RB has supported local STEM education for many years. The original endowment for the University of Hull was provided by Reckitt director Thomas Ferens in 1928.
RB is a founding partner of Ron Dearing University Technical College (UTC) a new school concept combining academic study in technical and scientific subjects, with employer-led practical projects.
We are working with the UTC to design curriculums, provide mentors, offer work experience and internships, and additional funding.
RB was proud to be principal partner of the British Science Festival 2018, one of the world’s longest-established public science events.
Visitors to the event, which took place in Hull, were able to explore RB’s rich heritage, career opportunities and participate in interactive and educational activities relating to some of our biggest brands – Durex, Gaviscon, Nurofen and Scholl.
