Better design is about paying attention to the full product’s lifecycle, from raw and packaging materials, to consumer use and recycling. By utilising fewer, better or more sustainable ingredients in the design process and finding ways to reduce the total environmental footprint of our entire portfolio of products – all without losing out on product performance – we can contribute to a more sustainable world. We track our progress on this as a share of our total net revenue.
You can read more about our approach to product innovation, how we determine and select more sustainable ingredients and processes, and our focus areas for improving our product design, in the Innovation section of our website and in our ‘Sustainable innovation’ Insight.
With the mission to bring RB Hygiene Home’s vision to ‘Create a Cleaner world’ to life, in February 2019, a four-day Hackathon was held.
Bringing together some of our top marketers, R&D scientists, packaging design and digital media experts, teams were formed for six leading global brands and pitched ideas based around leveraging digital transformation to a group of senior management, who acted as venture capital investors. The winning idea would receive project funding.
The event took place at an incubator that houses 350 pioneering companies, with the start-up environment contributing to a mindset of innovation and creative thinking. Participants were asked to challenge conventions and come up with original solutions which applied a digital lens to deliver our brand purposes.
The quality of ideas proposed was so outstanding that two winners, from our Harpic and Finish brands, were chosen and fully ‘funded’. Additional ideas were also agreed for further development.
