At RB we are constantly striving to find new ways to improve our products – including the impact they have on quality of people’s lives and the environment. We know that for most of our products, the biggest environmental impact is during consumer use. That’s why we provide consumers with advice and information through Happier Homes. The website, which was one of the first of its kind when launched in 2008, helps consumers to use our products in a more sustainable way.

We built on this platform to expand consumer communications in 2012, because we know our consumers are interested in topics like health and well-being as well as the environment.

The first issue we will be highlighting will be Water, because this is a key focus of betterbusiness – our reshaped corporate sustainability strategy. The pilot version is currently being tested in the UK and can be seen here.

The idea is that people can make a big difference through small changes in their daily lives. Take dishwashing for example:

  • There is no need to pre-rinse with Finish - scrape your dishes instead and you could save up to 75 litres of water per load (US Department of Energy estimate).
  • Did you know that the eco/economy or auto 50C/55C cycle on your dishwasher, even if it is longer, uses less energy than a short cycle? And Finish delivers excellent results even in eco cycles.
  • You could use up to 11 times less water using a dishwasher than washing dishes by hand (studies done by Universiy of Bonn, Germany and URS agency, UK)
The aspiration for our programme is to help consumers make a difference while using our brands - through using products more efficiently, prolonging the use of items such as clothing and improving the health and well-being of their families and communities.

The Charter covers a wide variety of activities and initiatives, ranging from the human and environmental safety of chemicals and products, to eco-efficiency and consumer information.
