The internet is a mine of information, not all of it particularly helpful.

To save you trawling through the masses of information, here is a few of the most renowned and less familiar resources to get that extra insight and information your peers may miss.

    Mintel provides a global insight into consumer behaviour, product innovation and competitive marketing strategies. The site contains high quality data, meaningful analysis, actionable recommendations, while giving fresh marketplace insight. This resource does come at a cost but is usually provided for free through your university online library resources.

    The Die Line is dedicated to the progress of the package design industry and its practitioners, students and enthusiasts.     Hoovers is a fantastic resource for company-based coursework, offering detailed business reports and industry profiles, with many free samples. It can help give students a competitive edge with insight and actionable information about companies, industries and key decision makers.

    FAME - (Financial Analysis Made Easy)
    This site contains 10 years’ worth of financial data (including profit and loss, balance sheet, key ratios) from 250,000 UK PLCs. This resource does come at a cost however it is normally provided for free through your University online library resources.

    This collection of interesting blogs from business thinkers and leaders at the Harvard Business School covers topical areas such as recruitment, brands, marketing, global management and innovation.

    Journal of Macro Economics and Journal of Theoretical Economics

    The Journal of Macro Economics is one of the best-known journals in theoretical and applied macroeconomics, covering pressing problems such as unemployment, inflation, poverty, growth, and globalisation. The Journal of Theoretical Economics has also become renowned for top-notch economic theory, both pure and applied, exploring contract theory, decision theory, game theory, general equilibrium theory and public finance.     McKinsey Quarterly

    This is the business journal of McKinsey & Company, offering new ways of thinking about management in the private, public, and nonprofit sectors. This site offers practical ideas based on their experience with the world's largest companies and close ties to academic institutions. Free registration gives readers Web access to hundreds of articles and to an array of newsletters and topical alerts.

    SurveyMonkey is a simple way to help anyone create professional online surveys quickly and easily.  This is great for any market research helping you design your survey, collect and analyse your responses all from your laptop.

    Wikipedia
    This is a multilingual, web-based, free-content encyclopedia project. Some institutions or teachers may not still accept it as a worthy academic reference source, but even so it is a great place to start to get an understanding of the topic area at hand.

E-journals

Google Scholar and Google Books
Google Scholar is a highly popular web search engine that indexes the full text of scholarly literature across an array of publishing formats.

Google Books searches the full text of books that Google scans and converts to text. Some publications have viewing limits and restrictions which does detract from the value of the resource.

Business Source Premier (EBSCO) is a full text business database, covering management, economics, finance, accounting and international business.
