MAPP - Management Annual Performance Plan

   MAT - Moving Annual Total
  • This is a time period of the latest 52 weeks (or 12 months) used frequently to report performance measures such as scan sales, volume sold, net revenue etc.

    NBD - New Business Development
  • A sub-category of the order getting sales classification in which salespeople locate and sell to new customers. Once a sale is made, the customer is passed on to others in their organization that handle account maintenance.

    NDA - Non Disclosure Agreement
  • Contracts intended to protect information considered to be proprietary or confidential. Parties involved in executing an NDA promise not to divulge secret or protected information disclosed during employment or other business transactions. For example, an NDA is appropriate for prohibiting others from disclosing a new design, an idea for a new website, or confidential material contained in a copyrighted software program.

    NI - Net Income
  • What remains after subtracting all the costs (namely, business, depreciation, interest, and taxes) from a company's revenues. Net income is sometimes called the bottom line.


    NPD - New Product Development
  • The term used to describe the complete process of bringing a new product or service to market. There are two parallel paths involved in the NPD process: one involves the idea generation, product design, and detail engineering; the other involves market research and marketing analysis. Companies typically see new product development as the first stage in generating and commercializing new products within the overall strategic process of product life cycle management used to maintain or grow their market share.

    NR - Net Revenue
  • The proceeds from the sale of an asset and annual sales, minus commissions, taxes, or other expenses related to the sales; also called net profit.
   NWC - New Working Capital
  • Total of all current assets less total of all current liabilities.

    OOS - Out-of-Stock
  • A product not found in the desired form, flavour or size, not found in saleable condition, or not shelved in the expected location, from the perspective of the consumer.

    Opinion Leaders
  • A concept in consumer buying behaviour which relates to people or organizations within a group who a consumer looks to for advice or direction and, consequently, may hold influence on what a consumer purchases.
    Operating Margin
  • A measure of profitability that tells investors how much of revenue will eventually become profit for a company.

    Opportunities
  • Are favourable events or circumstances that may help a company to achieve its objectives or gain a competitive advantage.

    OSA - On Shelf Availability
  • This is a common and obvious customer service goal. Improved ordering system has increased on-shelf availability significantly over the past few years.

    OTC - Over The Counter
  • A term applied to medicine and drugs able to be bought without a doctor's prescription

    Outreach
  • The effort by individuals in an organization or group to connect its ideas or practices to the efforts of other organizations, groups, specific audiences or the general public. Unlike marketing, outreach does not inherently revolve around a product or strategies to increase market share.

    PDP - Personal Development Plan
  • A PDP is another name for a plan of action, only this one refers specifically to your aspirations regarding personal development.  We make plans every day, but do not always write them down; a PDP allows you to set your own personal targets and find the best way to achieve them.

    PDR - Performance and Development Review
  • PDR are central to how an organization approaches performance management. They are often a formal discussion about an employee’s development and performance. The review is a planning process. It involves setting a plan of action for the next period and reviewing what has been achieved in the last period. Performance management is how we ensure individual objectives and development is aligned to the organisation’s purpose, and that individuals are held accountable for their performance.

    Planogram
  • A visual diagram, or drawing, that provides in detail where every product in a retail store should be placed. These schematics not only present a flow chart for the particular merchandise departments within a store layout but also show on which aisle and on what shelf an item is located. A planogram should also illustrate how many facings are allocated for each SKU(link).

    Podcasting
  • Name given to a method of delivery of audio and video programming that a user can download to a media devices, such as MP3 players or video player, thus allowing for playback on the user’s own schedule.

    POS - Point of Sale
  • Point at which a sale is made, the ownership (and usually the possession) is transferred from the seller to the buyer, and indirect taxes (such as VAT) become payable. Commonly, a retail outlet.

  • Big-name brands that aim to achieve global market leadership.

    Press Release
  • A document issued by a company and intended to gain news media attention or to provide information to other company stakeholders (e.g., customers, investors). Sometimes named news release.


    Product Life Cycle
  • Used as a tool for depicting the concept that products go through several stages of “life” with each stage presenting the marketer with different challenges that must be met with different marketing approaches.

    Profit-sharing schemes
  • Arrangements where workers get a share of the profits of the company they work for.

   PR - Public Relations
  • The discipline which looks after reputation, with the aim of earning understanding and support and influencing opinion and behaviour. It is the planned and sustained effort to establish and maintain goodwill and mutual understanding between an organization and its publics.

    Pull System
  • A system for replenishing distribution centre inventories where the inventory decisions are made at the distribution center and "pulled" from the manufacturing plant. This is a form of decentralized decision making.


    Push System
  • A system for replenishing distribution center inventories where the inventory decisions are made at the manufacturing location. The stock is then "pushed" out to the distribution centers. This is a form of centralized decision making.
