Brick Kiln Children

RB Pharmaceutical decided as a business to support their own unique Save the Children programme. Their pioneering initiative helps to improve the lives of children working in brick kiln factories in the rural areas of West Bengal, India.

Many of these children are from poor rural areas and travel to find seasonal work. Some are taken without their families knowing. More than half the workers are women and children, yet they're expected to carry 88 lbs of bricks on their heads for 656 feet, 25-30 times a day. That's a total of 3.5 miles each day in 100 degree heat and humidity, all for just a dollar a week. They don't receive an education or any healthcare.

RB Pharmaceuticals and their employees are now funding this long term project which will change the lives and prospects of many children and their families.

So far, they have found ways to raise over £45,000 to support these children. They bought items during a visit to India and auctioned them. Garage sales, handmade jewellery, wearing your jeans days, t-shirt sales and silent auctions were some of the other creative ways they raised much-needed funds.

'RB Pharma's support for the children in the brick kilns was a lifeline that saved us just when other funding was being phased out. We want to build on the successes of the last three years, scaling up our approach, ensuring the Brick Kiln children have the right to the education and protection that they need to reach their full potential.'
